The Brubaker Lab (Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University) and Lucey Lab (Department of Neurology, Washington University in St. Louis) are recruiting a postdoc study the role of Sleep in Alzheimer’s Disease. The specific research projects will be focused on cross-species, cross-tissue modeling of circadian and sleep biology in Alzheimer’s’ disease mouse models and patients and cross-species, cross-tissue modeling of neurological signatures of gut microbiome dysbiosis in Alzheimer’s disease. 

The successful candidate will also be responsible for preparing manuscripts for publication, traveling to, and presenting results at scientific meetings, and working with Dr. Brubaker and Dr. Lucey to manage research activities and train students. Postdocs are also expected to apply for internal and external support and to develop additional independent projects in cross-species systems biology, Alzheimer’s disease, or related areas as part of their training. The position will be based in the Brubaker Lab at Purdue University.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate... 

  • PhD or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, or related field.  

  • Expertise in computational analysis in at least one of: transcriptomics, proteomics, imaging, metabolomics, and/or microbiome datasets.  

  • Familiarity with large biological data sets and/or imaging modalities 

  • Ability to independently design, conduct, and document experiments and analyses 

  • Critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity in multidisciplinary research 

  • Effective project and time management, mentorship, leadership, and interpersonal skills 

  • Strong oral and written communication 

Sponsorship and Period of Performance: The open postdoctoral research position will be supported by startup funds, and a grant from Open Philanthropy. The start date for this position is as early as January 1, 2022, with funding for up to 4 years total. Appointment is on a yearly basis, assuming satisfactory performance and timely completion of sponsor-mandated Milestones and Deliverables.
